We arrived in Melbourne, Australia, Wednesday morning after a 15 hour flight from LA. Melbourne is the second largest city in Australia after Sydney. Melbourne's metropolitan area has four and a half million residents who are very proud of the fact that it has been named The World's Most Liveable City. It is a thriving metropolis with construction projects going on everywhere. It is said to be comprised of about 130 different cultures. About 20% of the land area has been given over to green spaces and parks. The public tram system is widely used, easy to maneuver and free within the city center.

One of the most distinctive aspects of this city is it architecture. The juxtaposition of many exquisitely refurbished Victorian buildings versus ultra-modern structures is especially intriguing.

The city has several alleyways where young people are encouraged to paint the walls with graffiti expressing their opinions on various topics. One reason for this is to try to keep down the graffiti in other parts of the city. For the most part, this has worked.
The weather has been cool and rainy since we got here. Mostly in the 50s with showers now and then. Today, Friday, has been cool and windy but with no rain. So Mel and I decided to take a tram to the beach for lunch.
