Fado Music and the Silver Coast

One evening our dinner entertainment was Fado music performed by a guitar trio and 2 singers.  Fado is a uniquely Portuguese genre of music which can be traced to the 19th century and, perhaps, earlier. Gernerally the songs depict a sense of longing and loss, giving them a mournful, melancholy sound.  We did hear a couple of livelier songs, though.  YouTube has some samples of the music, if you're interested.

On our drive along the Silver Coast we saw beautiful beaches and lovely Mediterranean-type towns which are popular  vacation destinations for Europeans.   Nazare and Obidos were especially nice.

On another note, I think Portuguese sounds like a combination of Spanish and French.  Having a rudimentary knowledge of Spanish has helped me decipher some Portuguese writing.
