Australia is the only country that is also an island and a continent. It is made up of more than 8,000 islands, including the island state of Tasmania. As an island, Australia is a natural quarantine zone which explains why they have such exotic flora and fauna .
The size is nearly 3 million square miles, roughly the size of the continental US. The population is about 23 million, about 7% the number of us in the USA.
- Australians don't drink Fosters Beer. It is mostly exported and rarely seen in proper pubs.
- The largest number of Greeks outside of Greece live in Melbourne.
- Kangaroo is a popular dish. It is widely available in grocery stores, butcher shops, and restaurants and is considered a healthier choice over beef and lamb.
