Mel remembers...

Mel  was in Vietnam from 1966-68.  He was stationed at Cam Ranh Bay but traveled up
and down the coast installing electronic equipment in control towers at US air bases. When we flew into the new airport at Cam Rahn yesterday,  he said the beach, runway, and control tower were the same ones as when he was here. Cam Rahn is now a major commercial seaport and Vietnamese naval base.

Cam Rahn is also the commercial airport for the city of Nah Trang, a former US base where Mel spent several months.  Although much has changed in Nha Trang, Mel says the runway and control tower are the same ones also.  However, the base is now a Vietnamese air base.

The city of Nha Trang today is an international resort destination of 250,000.  Here are a few photos of modern Nha Trang.  Mel recognizes a few of the landmarks that remain from his time here.

The beach at the Bay of Nha Trang, one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.  Mel spent time at these beaches when he was here in the '60's.

It's such a gift for me to be with Mel as he reconnects with this part of his personal history. Although we weren't married while he was here, I feel very lucky that he came home safely so we could share our life together.
