Historic Sites Near Dublin

Here is a link to a map of Ireland.  We've begun in Dublin.

Our first excursion was to the ancient sites in the Boyne River Valley near Dublin.  The Hill of Tara sits here, perported to be where the Celtic kings of Ireland were crowned in the 3rd Century A.D.  However, archeologists date it back to 5,000 B.C. because of the burial passages discovered there.  This would make the site older than the Pyramids and Stone Henge.

We also visited the Drogheda area which winessed the start of Christianity in Ireland in the 12th century.  The oldest Celtic cross in Ireland is here, dating back 1,000 years.

It is said that the Celtic cross accommodated pagan worship of the sun by combining the cross and the circle
